Skatepark Operations Training
Free to PYCC youth members ages 9-19, this program is part of our Entrepreneurial Program designed to let youth learn skills for future jobs while participating here at the center. Sign up at the skatepark today, and become one of the crew that works daily to run the park. Safety, registration, office skills, retail, maintenance, and event coordination are all part of what it takes to run a skatepark as a small business. Qualified members who train and pass to the second level and above may become eligible for incentive pay based on performance of a task or project in skatepark operations. Requires parent approval, and a completed IPP (Individual Performance Plan) to start. Enrolled youth do not have to be skaters!
Brief IPP Training Overview
Training:
The Instructor will use lectures, documents, guest speakers, field trips, and visual aids in a 4-step structure, utilizing Modeling, Role Playing, Performance Feedback, and Transfer of Training as stages in learning.
Performance Target:
Youth will learn these specific entrepreneurial skills as used to operate the Nalu Pohaku-Stonewave Skatepark as a business: Administration, Retail Sales, Sk8Park Safety, and Special Events Coordination. The Youth will incorporate specific aspects of consideration, communication, and cooperation as a basis for Social Skills.
Goal #1: Youth will engage in individual and group training sessions designed to promote learning and retention of skills transferable to actual work related tasks. This training will promote independent work skills, consideration/respect for self and others, communication between individuals and groups, cooperation for task completion, and build self-confidence. Work ethics training, Hawaiian values, and the Four Agreements will be used, as applicable, to further define and evaluate skills learned.
Goal #2: To encourage and promote youth ownership in all Skatepark operations, and to create a positive flow of operations to fund youth incentive positions as needed. Completed Trainees will create a Team work force that will enable promotion of the Skatepark and its successful operation. Youth are required to have an active IPP to qualify for the Skate Club Team.
Goal #3: Participating youth will identify the personal skills, values, behaviors, and information that he/she desires to learn during training, for self-improvement. Instructor Trainer will assist youth in receiving personal learning as noted.
Upon Program level completions, the youth will be trained and eligible for Skate fee credits, event passes, Shop Credits, or Cash Payment as incentives while participating in the following program categories: Skate Club Manager, Skate Shop Assistant, Skate Captain, and/or Skatepark Crew.
